He contested 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election on 15 November 2020 from constituency GBA-2 (Gilgit-II) on the ticket of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He won the election by the margin of 2 votes over the runner up Jamil Ahmed of Pakistan Peoples Party. He garnered 6,696 votes while Ahmed received 6,694 votes. A recount was conducted, after which his victory margin increased to 96 votes.

Sixth anniversary of APS tragedy observed. The sixth anniversary of the tragic incident of terrorist attack on Army Public School Peshawar was observed on Wednesday. One hundred forty seven people, including students and teachers were martyred in the terrorist attack on this day in 2014.
The federal cabinet appointed on Tuesday Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz the chairman of National Disaster Management Authority.
Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over the cabinet meeting in Islamabad. It discussed the overall political and economic situation of the country.
Lt Gen Nawaz will replace Lt Gen Mohammad Afzal, who took charge as the NDMA chairman in May 2019.
