Located in Sindh, Qadirpur ranks as the second largest gas field in Pakistan after Sui, with original recoverable reserves of about 4 Tcf. The field was developed in three phases, increasing its capacity from the initial 235 MMscfd to 500 MMscfd. In 2008, the capacity was further enhanced to 600 MMscfd.
On 7 September 1958, after four years of negotiations, including six months of intense negotiations, Pakistan purchased the Gwadar enclave from the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman for USD $3 million. Gwadar formally became part of Pakistan on 8 December 1958, after 174 years of Omani rule.
